ISO ISO is an International Organization for Standardization
Standards developed by ISO are subdivided into families:
- ISO 9000:2000 — fundamentals and terminology for Quality Management System. Basically it’s an introduction;
- ISO 9001:2000 — a set of requirements for Quality Management System, used in certification and audit;
- ISO 9004:2000 — effective recommendations and methodical instructions on development and introduction of Quality Management System;
- ISO 19011:2000 — guiding directions and recommendation on inspection (audit) of Quality management systems and/or Ecological management systems.
Based on this subdivision the Government of Russian Federation have developed similar functional standards named respectively GOST-R ISO 9000-2001, GOST-R ISO 9001-2001, GOST-R ISO 9004-2001 and GOST-R ISO 19011-2002. These standards have much in common; the main difference of GOST-R ISO 9000 certificate is that in fact it’s valid only within Russia. If for instance an enterprise is planning to enter international markets, certification based on international ISO 9000 standards is more preferable.
Certification based on ISO 9000 standards gives your enterprise the following opportunities:
- To increase effectiveness of enterprise organizational structure;
- To improve the quality of manufactured products or rendered services and to increase sales;

Also certification based on ISO 9000 standards may become a safe protection from competition of foreign companies upon Russia’s entry into World Trade Organization (WTO).
